The White Wind Wildlife Society consists of three primary components:                        

The Society, The Investment Fund, and The Land Trust.  

The purpose of the Society is to save America's wilderness by promoting family legacies of wild land preservation and managing the Investment Fund and the Land Trust.

The White Wind Wildlife Society, founded in 1989, is Minnesota's oldest 501(c)3 charitable land trust. The Society is a 100% volunteer nonprofit organization, paying no salaries to anyone.

The Society presently protects 970.49 acres from development.

Monies of the Investment Fund and the Land Trust are never commingled. Monies of the individual Trust accounts are never commingled.

The purpose of the Investment Fund is to assure financial security of the Society in good times and bad, while the Society is protecting wilderness lands from development forever.

The Investment Fund is financed through tax-deductible donations from people like you.

Monies generated by the Investment Fund pay the expenses of the Society and are never paid toward any Trust participant.



The purpose of the Land Trust is to protect wilderness lands from development forever. The Land Trust is financed through tax deductible donations by Trust participants.

The Land Trust is financed through tax-deductible donations by Trust participants.

Monies sent to each land owner must be declared as income by the land owner for income tax purposes.

Monies paid by each land owner for property taxes are tax deductible for income tax purposes.

This trust arrangement is unavailable from any Minnesota bank or trust company.



Participants in the Land Trust must:

1. Surrender 99% of all development rights – 1% of the land may include a building.
2. Retain all other privileges of ownership.
3. Make a tax deductable donation to the Society Trust of twenty times the annual property taxes or more.
4. Pay all the property taxes on their lands each year.

Society's obligation to Land Trust participants are:

1. Monies generated by the Land Trusts are paid to the land owners to surrender development rights on 99% of the lands they own in an amount equal to or less than the annual property taxes for so long as the land remains undeveloped. 
2. Any profits in excess of the property taxes are permanently returned to the principal of the appropriate account.
3. Charge no fees of any kind for services rendered.

Participants and Society agree:

1. All property taxes are the obligation of the land owner.
2. If participant develops the land, the contract is broken, the Society discontinues payments to the land owner and all monies donated and accrued in the trust are not refunded.
3. If the land owner enters into a perpetual conservation easement with another organization, the Society will continue to pay the land owner for so long as the land remains undeveloped.

It is the burden of property taxes on lands financially unproductive that may cause future heirs to sell the land. Unlike a bank trust account, the monies donated to the White Wind Wildlife Trust by the trust participant are unavailable forever to the participant or any future heirs of the land, with the exception stated above.  This financial arrangement greatly enhances the chance of the land remaining a family legacy of protected wilderness forever.
